FAQs
Welcome to the JC TURBO FAQ Center. We have compiled the most frequently asked questions regarding the selection, installation, and maintenance of turbochargers. If you cannot find the answer you need below, please feel free to contact our technical team via the “Contact Us” page.
🔍 Product Selection & Compatibility
How do I choose the right turbocharger for my vehicle?
The most accurate way to select a turbocharger is to check the nameplate on the original unit and provide the Part Number or OEM number. If you are planning a performance upgrade, please let us know your target horsepower, engine displacement, and intended use (e.g., street driving, track racing, or drag racing).
What is “Turbo Lag”?
Turbo lag refers to the delay between pressing the accelerator and feeling the boost in power. This is usually caused by insufficient exhaust pressure to rapidly spin the turbine wheel. Our new electronic turbochargers (e-Turbo) and Variable Nozzle Turbine (VNT) technology are designed to minimize this delay.
What is the difference between Ball Bearing and Journal Bearing systems?
Ball Bearing: Faster response (reduced lag), higher heat resistance; typically used in high-performance and racing applications.
Journal Bearing: Simple construction, lower cost, easy to service; widely used in commercial and standard passenger vehicles.
🛠 Installation & Technical Support
What preparations are needed before installing a new turbocharger?
[Crucial] Before installation, you must change the engine oil and oil filter, and check the intake piping for debris. During installation, be sure to prime the turbocharger by pouring clean oil into the oil inlet and manually rotating the turbine wheel to prevent dry friction during the initial startup.
Why is my new turbocharger smoking after installation?
Brief smoking may occur as residual oil from the installation process evaporates in the exhaust system due to heat. If the smoking persists, please check:
Whether the oil drain line is blocked or restricted. • Check if the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system is functioning correctly.
Check for engine cylinder blow-by.
Can I install the turbocharger myself?
While users with mechanical knowledge may attempt this, turbochargers require extreme precision and cleanliness during installation. We strongly recommend having a qualified professional technician perform the installation to ensure the warranty remains valid.
🔧 Troubleshooting and Maintenance
What are the common signs of turbocharger failure?
Power loss: The vehicle feels sluggish during acceleration.
Abnormal noise: High-pitched whistling or metallic grinding sounds.
Blue exhaust smoke: Usually indicates seal failure, allowing engine oil to enter the combustion chamber.
Dashboard warning: The “Check Engine” light illuminates, indicating abnormal boost pressure.
How can I extend the lifespan of the turbocharger?
Regular oil changes: Use high-quality fully synthetic oil and strictly adhere to the recommended oil change intervals.
Warm-up and cool-down: Allow the engine to idle for 1–2 minutes after a cold start before high-load driving; after high-speed driving, let the engine idle for 1 minute before shutting it off to allow the bearings to cool down.
Keep the air filter clean: Prevent hard particles from entering the intake tract and damaging the turbine blades.
📦 Orders, Shipping, and Warranty
Do your products come with a warranty?
Yes, all our brand-new turbochargers come with a 12-month/unlimited-mileage limited warranty (whichever comes first). The warranty covers manufacturing defects but excludes damage caused by insufficient lubrication, foreign object ingestion, or improper installation.
Can I return the product if I bought the wrong model?
We accept returns or exchanges within 30 days, provided the product has not been installed and the packaging remains intact. As returns involve precision inspection and repackaging, a restocking fee may apply. Please refer to our “Return and Exchange Policy” for details.
Do you offer worldwide shipping?
Yes, we do. We partner closely with DHL, FedEx, and UPS, enabling us to ship products to most countries and regions worldwide. Specific shipping costs and delivery times will be automatically calculated at checkout based on your address.
